Common questions
Is it really free? Yes, for every kind of organization. The only requirement is the credit link in the embed code, and you may qualify it with rel=”nofollow” if you prefer.
What does the badge show? Your area's current overall Crime Grade and the year. It renders live from our data, so it never goes stale, and next year it reads next year's date with the current grade.
Who uses badges like this? Cities and police departments announce safety rankings every year, and tourism bureaus, chambers of commerce, and community developers feature them prominently. This badge works the same way, except it is available to every well-graded place in the country all year, not just an annual top-100 list.
Can real estate sites use it? Yes. We ask that the badge be presented as what it is, an objective data grade for the area, shared evenly, and not used to compare or characterize communities against each other. We may withdraw permission for use that is misleading, discriminatory, or disparaging of other areas.
My area's grade is not great. Can I still use it? The generator works for every place and always shows the real grade, so that is your call to make.
